In 2008, none of the three main Berlin universities (Humboldt University, the Free University, the Technical University) succeeded in making it to the top 100. The ranking is believed to be serious when taking into consideration the number of scientific graduates, the number of awards given out, how often it is mentioned in other circles, and the number of active publications.
