Just for Kicks

A sudden breeze clears smoke from the field, and the left side defensive player dances around the ball, scanning the positions of the opposing team. This is what he was designed for; this is what he was made to do...

Suddenly, in a blurry flash, he spins around and knocks the ball across the field before anyone can react. The familiar crack of plastic on plastic alerts the audience that the game is in play again. This is the ultimate sports competition; this is what we all live for. This is Tisch Fussball!

Or so that is the impression one derives from observing any of the Kicker Zimmer that enliven every corner of this quilted city. This scene can be quite intimidating to the foreign eye, when it is not accustomed to the aggressive force of large, shouting Germans. But the brave souls who dare to remain for the entirety of a match will not be disappointed. In Berlin, there exists a comradery between players of all levels, a sportsmanship that cannot be compared.

To all those who ever watched a Berlin game of Kicker and decided it wasn’t for them, reconsiderations should be given. The shouting is merely a surface aggression, and the briefest of conversations is guaranteed to reveal the fiery Germans, the Kicker experts of Berlin, to be some of the warmest and friendliest people you will ever meet.

The following site shows some (but far from all) of the best places to get your kicks in Berlin:
