13th Jazz Meeting in Berlin
For the 13th time since 1997, Berlin's Jazz Festival will take place from the 10th to the 15th of October, with a foretaste on S-bahn stations on the 9th!
Berlin's Jazz-Meeting started as a project between german jazz musician Helmut Degner and czech jazz musician Joe Kucera. The Ufa-Fabrik was the obvious choice right from the beginning seeing as Helmut Degner had played there during the 1970s. In the past years, musicians such as Heinz Sauer, Theo Jörgensmann, Michael Wollny, Miroslav Vitous and Joe Muranyi were seen hitting the stages at the Berlin Jazz Meeting.
This year the festival will open on the 10th at the uFa Fabrik on Victoriastr 10-18, u-bahn Ullsteinstr with the Arne Jansen Trio who just released a new album last week. Following their performance on Friday night will be Pawel Kazcmarczyk and Shreefpunk.
If uFa is in your eyes not so easy to get to, don't you worry because the festival will also be taking place at the Werkstatt der Kulturen (near Hermannplatz) on the 14th of October and at Babylon (Rosa Luxemburg U-bahn) on the 15th. Scandinavian Jazz will be the theme on the 14th at the Werkstatt, with Fattigfolket as the highlight of the evening and closing the night.
And there are many artists to look forward to on the 15th at Babylon, in particular Fredrika Stahl with her beautiful vocals and of course, Tineke Postma, one of the leading female jazz musicians, on her saxophone.
But as if that wasn't enough, on the 9th of October, a few S-bahn stations will be the scenes for the jazz-meeting hors d'oeuvres, as artists from the Jazz School of Berlin will be performing at the Sudkreuz, Westkreuz, Gesundbrunnen and Ostkreuz stations. click here for the timetable.
